Such a busy month!!!

April 9, 2008

Hey there LSC-Tomball,

Hope everyone is doing great so far this semester. As most of you may know, the deadline for drops was today, so if you needed to drop any courses, I hope you did so by now. The month of April is such a busy month full of activities and events for all the clubs and organizations here at LSC-Tomball.

Elections have started for our Student Government Association as of April 8th and will go on through the 11th. It’s pretty simple to vote for your new officers. Just go to the LSC-Tomball homepage and click on the box that says “Vote Now”. It takes you to the voting page and you sign in with your MyRecords ID and your birth date and vote by clicking the bubbles next to each candidate. (-: FYI: I’m running for President and would truly love your votes:-)

Phi Theta Kappa just recently had its Fall Induction ceremony and they also went to Ft. Worth for their Regional Conference. At the conference I was inducted into the Hall of Honor for Phi Theta Kappa and our chapter here at LSC-Tomball earned the Top Chapter Award along with other awards. This past week we left for Philadelphia and attended the 90th International Conference. The conference was amazing and it was extremely informative. Phi Theta Kappa as a whole fundraised $2.4 million for the American Cancer Society making it the top donator for the organization. At the conference the Texas Region was awarded a new award for Continued Excellence for being a Top Region for three consecutive years. In a couple of weeks Alpha Rho Mu will be participating in Relay for Life, a fundraising event for the Amercian Cancer Society. LSC-Tomball SGA will also be participating in the event alongside Phi Theta Kappa. We can use all the help we can get from all of you at this event.

There is also a LSC college night being sponsored by our Houston Astro’s this Friday!!! Our tickets are discounted 50% in every section. It’s gonna be awesome!!! Hope to see some of you there this friday…

The Star Foundation is hosting its Gala this weekend at the Marriott Waterway in the Woodlands. The Gala is dedicated to raising money for scholarships for Lone Star College System’s students. Student Ambassadors are volunteering to work the event and represent LSC-Tomball.

Like I mentioned earlier, this is a super busy month with tons of activities to do. If you have any questions about these or any other activities, feel free to ask.

Don’t forget to vote for your new Student Government Association officers this week!!!

Bye for now…

Spring Break is here!!!

March 12, 2008

Well friends,

Spring break is finally here and the fun is about to start!!! I hope everyone had a great time last week at Spring Fling. It was a blast! There were prizes, games, rides, and free shirts given away at the event. The Cyber Spin was really sweet ride! If you didn’t make it to this event for whatever reason there may have been, make sure to make it to the next event Student Activities hosts. They are always fun and designed by students with the student body in mind.

Aside from that, I just wanted to wish everyone a safe and most definitely a FUN and RELAXING Spring Break!!!

Enrique

Slight Correction…

March 3, 2008

Guys,

I apologize but I had mentioned before that Maemar Correa was our Tomball SGA At-Large Representative. In reality, she is the VP of Student Outreach. I do apologize for the confusion but i felt that I needed to inform you of her proper title.

 Thank you,

Enrique Treminio

New York, New York…

February 25, 2008

Well friends,

We are back from New York. We really wish we didn’t have to come back so soon but I guess all good things must come to an end… as the saying goes. New York was great to us, the people were friendly, the food was to die for, and the snow was just amazing!!!

When we were leaving, we got delayed big time. We arrived at the airport around 6:15 and our flight was scheduled to leave around 8:05 AM arriving in New York around noon. Instead we got delayed till 12:30 and we arrived in New York around 4:30. Sadly, we lost some time that we had planned on using for sight seeing. Either way, we made the best of it and did as much sight seeing as we could with the available time. We definitely got a whole lot of it done!!!

We went to Time Square, Wall Street, The Statue of Liberty, Central Park, The Empire State Building, and Rockefeller Plaza. The first night there we had dinner at a really nice restaurant called City Hall. The food there was amazing, pricy, but amazing!!! We also had a taste of New York pizza. The Pizza from Steve’s Pizza Shop was awesome!!! We will definitely miss it. While we were in the Time Square area we went to Junior’s Bakery who claims they have the “Best cheesecake in the world”. As a cheesecake fan, I would have to agree that it was the best cheesecake that I have ever had.

As far as the conference is concerned, it was a tremendous success. We gathered a ton of valuable information that we will be implementing into our current SGA here at Lone Star College Tomball. It was a great way to see how different SGA’s work with the student body to accomplish their goals.

Although we didn’t want to leave, we needed to come home and get back to the joys of student life… so once again my friends, we have returned home.

Activities this week…

February 20, 2008

Man, this week is going to be so much fun!!! Not only is it a short week for classes but there’s so many things happening outside of school this week/ weekend.

This Thursday, Lone Star College-Tomball is taking several clubs to A&M College Station to visit the Presidential Library. Student Ambassadors, Stars, Phi Theta Kappa, and the Collegiate Leadership Institute will be touring the George Bush Library and having lunch at the Faculty Club on the A&M campus. This trip promises to be filled with fun activities as well as being an excellent educational opportunity for many. I can’t wait especially since I plan on trasferring to A&M within a semester or so.

Aside from that trip, The Student Government Association is taking a big trip to New York this weekend. The entire Executive Council will be attending an educational conference held by The American Student Government Association at Pace University. We will be participating in educational seminars that are geared towards helping SGA run more effectively and efficiently. When we return we will be coming back with a load of information that we will put into effect to make our SGA run effectively.

As SGA President, I am in charge of starting the meetings and running them as well as ensuring that the Executive Council stays on task and works effectively as a team. As SGA we represent the student body and work towards accomplishing what the students want to see changed around campus. If there are any issues that you would like to have resolved you can bring them up to the SGA through the at-large representative, Maemar Correa, one of your other student bloggers.

Well guys, I have to get running to another meeting, so that’s gonna be it for now… Have a great weekend and we’ll see you around.

Stayin busy…

February 18, 2008

Hey guys….

Hope everyone is doing well so far this semester while having a great time meeting new people and staying active within the community. As far as I’m concerned, I have been super busy with all the new activities I’m involved in.

Classwork so far has been pretty good and I’m pretty happy with all my classes and professors. Taking online courses has helped me quite a bit with managing my extracurriculars. They give me the flexibility to log in when I have the available time to work on my coursework while keeping time open for other things.

As far as my extracurriculars go, I am now the President for Alpha Rho Mu, which is Tomball’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. Phi Theta Kappa is the International Honor Society for Two-Year Colleges. Other than that I am also the President of your Student Government Association here at Lonestar College Tomball. I am also a Student Ambassador here for Lone Star College- Tomball. As such, we represent the college at special events and functions on and off campus. Aside from those clubs I am also a part of the Student Activities Board which is the board that is in charge of planning all special events on campus. Like I mentioned earlier, I keep myself extremely busy around campus. If you see me around feel free to holler at me and introduce yourself.

See you guys soon hopefully…

Getting back to the grind…

January 31, 2008

First of all guys,

I want to welcome all you guys back to the all new, Lone Star College-Tomball. So as most of you know, our name has changed but the quality of education still remains. As professor Birch likes to say, we go to “the Harvard of community colleges”.

Man, it feels great to be back here learning new things on a daily basis. The break was great but it was time to get back to work and back on the daily grind of school work, extracurriculars, and work. Sometimes I wonder how I manage them all. So far all my classes have been awesome. I’m taking a full load of credit hours again but this time I have more responsibilities with my clubs and organizations than last semester.

This semester will definitely keep me busy with me being president of both Phi Theta Kappa as well as the Student Government Association. So far things are rolling along well with all my extracurriculars though. It takes careful planning to make sure that I am staying active with each of the clubs and organizations that I am a part of. For those of you that don’t know me, I am also a Student Ambassador as well as a part of the Student Activities Board. If you happen to have any questions about clubs or organizations and you see me around feel free to stop me and ask.

As my fellow bloggers have mentioned before, we would truly love some feedback from you to let us know what you think or what’s on your mind. We would love to communicate with you and if possible, maybe even become friends.

On my page you will find my Myspace as well as my Facebook links. Feel free to check them out and add me as a friend if you would like.

That’s all for now and good luck with the new semester!!!

It’s been a long time…

November 15, 2007

Well hello fellow students and faculty members…

I know it’s been a super long time since I’ve updated ya’ll on here but I hope you guys understand that life has been rediculously busy for me lately. I know that I had mentioned in my last blog that I had to leave out of town for a while due to a family issue. The days I was gone really set me back quite a bit. Since I’m fast tracking government, I needed to get my final essays done and had to set aside all my other work which set me back in the other classes. Other than that I’ve been hanging in there just trying to keep up with my work load. It’s been a lot of work to maintain the grades this semester…

The past few weeks have been so packed with events!!! There’s always something going on in the commons and in N103!!! You should definitely join in on the fun! On Mondays, there’s movies in N103 and on Thursdays there’s either karaoke in N103 or game day in front of N103. Either way, it’s a blast hanging with fellow students while having fun!

Aside from those events You can’t forget Fall Fest on Oct 31st. Fall Fest was a huge success!!! There were rides, food, and plenty of contests! The costume contest was awesome! I hope most of you made it out to the event that day…

Clubs have been super lately as well with Fall Fest as well as their normal activities. With Phi Theta Kappa, we’ve been real busy with Satellite Seminars as well as with Boys and Girls Country. Ambassadors have been busy with different events and functions as well.

Work lately has had to be put on the back burner due to other priorities such as school. They are always very understanding of my situation with school and are willing to work with me. Thank goodness. I did have to compromise a bit though, and promise to work as much as they needed me to during the holiday season. It’ll be worth it though… it’s gonna be so busy in the mall during the holidays. It always makes time fly by.

Life in the commons is always fun… there’s entertainment all the time. Lately I’ve been spending time with close friends and meeting new people daily. I really enjoy the atmosphere here on campus and I really enjoy the fact that I’m hanging out with people that have similar goals as me. I love being here!!!

Quick reminder!!!
The Tomball Holiday Parade is this weekend!!! Make sure to attend the parade and cheer for your SAB team as our float goes through the lineup. It’s gonna be a great time to spend time with friends and family and enjoy some holiday festivities. Make sure to be there Saturday morning… it starts at 10 AM!!!

Well guys, that’s gonna have to do for now… I’ll be back on here soon though….

Thanks for keeping up…

Murphy’s Law

October 25, 2007

Wow… it’s all about Murphy’s Law, what can go wrong will go wrong at the least expected moment. Last week was a busy one. I had a family emergency and had to leave out of town. I didnt even have time to tell anyone about it. But so far all my professors have been pretty understanding about me missing some important work and allowing me to make it up. I would like to take this time to thank them. All my extra curricular activities have also been keeping me busy. I have been doing work for SAB and ambassadors, which i love to participate in but also take a lot of hard work.

So next week is Fall Fest and you’ll see us wearing our Fall Fest 07 shirts on Tue. We’ll be giving out free candy and make sure to attend Fall Fest on Wed. from 11 AM till 2 PM!!! It’s gonna be a ton of fun in the courtyard between the campus and library. We’ll have food, drinks, games, and prizes!!! Wear your costumes and have fun with SAB.

Well guys, thanks for reading and I’ll talk to you later…

Rolling along smoothly…

October 18, 2007

Hola people…

So finally I’m feeling super comfortable about all my classes. Which is really good for me! I have been staying super busy working on all my assignments and making sure everything is done on time lately. It gets hard at times and every once in a while I let work go to make sure that the main thing stays the main thing. (Being school.) Luckily my managers understand my situation and know that my education is the most important thing for me and they are willing to work with me on my terms and schedule. When I need time to do schoolwork, they give me the time I need.

Last week was a little slow for me since I mainly focused on my shcool work. I didn’t participate as much in my usual socializing as I normally would. In a way, I think it’s really positive because it allowed me to focus on my goals. Something I had not done in some time. Furthermore, it gave me time to myself… something I haven’t taken in a while. You should try it sometime.

Other than that, the club activities have kept me super busy as well. This past friday, we had a Powertrip for the Tomball HS, Waller HS and Alpha Academy. It was a blast talking to the new prospective students about life as a college student here at Tomball College and helping them overcome some of the worries they had about college life and answering any questions they may have had. The experience with the students one on one was awesome!!!

This past weekend I went out to A&M and checked out the campus. It was pretty nice being out there and getting a feel for what it would be like to be out there for the remainder of my school days. While there I visited with some of my friends that are currently enrolled there and talked to them about their experience there. They all loved it!!! I still need to check out UT though. That has always been a goal of mine. Going to UT Austin and double majoring in business. We’ll see how that goes!!!

After College Station, I headed to Waco for a Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Academy!!! It was such a blast hanging out with other Phi Theta Kappans!!! Obviously the name of the event says what it was about, but it does not explain the importance behind it. Part of being in Phi Theta Kappa is learning to become a great leader. Someone who can take charge while working effectively with others. We had many seminars to go to and each was full of information that will come in handy now and in the future. The event went from friday till sunday and it was a huge success!!! I would encourage everyone that receives an invitation to join Phi Theta Kappa, do it. It can help you in many, many ways.

Well guys, I’ll talk to ya’ll later…. take care for now!!!
